Style Muse #3: Sofia Richie

When I look for a style muse I like to look for diversity so I’m not repeating similar looks and styles. This month’s style muse focuses on the youngest member of the Richie clan, Sofia.

Sofia has got a very unique look when you compare her with her other ‘famous’ friends like the Jenners/Kardashians, the Hudgens or the Smiths (although there are times when these guys rock similar looks). I think out of all the teen celebs out there at the moment, Sofia is probably one of the few who are actually dressing her age.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been checking out the teen fashion on the streets and I’ve noticed that many of the teens girls are actually channeling her modern punk look. And she’s probably one of the reasons why leggings are making is way back into the ‘pants’ department. Now your parents would probably tell you to go back and change if they see you walk out like that, because they probably don’t consider it as ‘clothes’. But I think there is a line between what’s actually a trendy outfit verse a really tacky and non flattering look! And Sofia Richie ain’t tacky.

What I love about her style is that it’s really casual and doesn’t scream out ‘look at me I’m wearing Chanel’ (even though she’s carrying a $2000 bag), which is why I think most of teens rock her look all the time. It’s easy to copy and you don’t have to go out and buy expensive dresses or tops to dress like her.  Sofia makes comfortable actually look trendy! And it’s definitely a lot better than the Juicy Couture tracksuit trend, back when I was teen.

Fashion Friday #20 – Tradie’s Work

I am all about layering today.

I when I first saw this look I thought it was quite weird, and it really took me back to my old primary school days when I used to tie my jumper around my waist during recess and lunch. But after mixing and matching the shirts I actually quite like it! Layering is a must this season, so if you think you’re wearing too much… well maybe you’re wearing just enough (according to the fashionistas of course). Obviously, don’t over do it especially when it’s a warm day cause it will just be too hot!

Today’s Fashion Friday features the following items:

White base tee – Uniqlo

Blue denim shirt – Country Road

Red flannelet shirt (my brother’s) – Pepe Jeans

Jeans – Uniqlo

Sneakers Chuck Taylor All Star (low cut) – Converse

Sunglasses Wayfarer (kids) – Ray Bans

Have you got your Mum a present?

I was over at my little cousin’s house the other day and I asked him what he got for his mum for Mother’s Day. He sneakily said “Come and follow me” and lead me to his room, opened his brother’s school bag (because his school bag was too small to fit his presents) and showed me what he bought at the Mother’s Day stall. After having a good look at his presents,  I must say his done pretty well for a boy! He bought practical presents with the exception of the folded fan and maybe the really large rose pen, but for a small budget I think his done exceptionally well.

We all know that one of the best things about primary school (during this season) is the fact that $5 can actually buy you a decent present for your mum/dad. And if you handled your money well, you may have enough to buy yourself an Icypole or a Sunny Boy. But now that you’re in your teens and some what older, you have to actually go out of our way to get it!

So where am I getting at?

I can guarantee that there will be a good bunch of teens out there that: 1) Haven’t bought their present, 2) Forgot it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday & 3) Are probably thinking of riding on their little sister’s/bother’s Mother’s Day Stall present because they’ve spent their money on phone credit.

I thought it would be great idea to do quick ‘last minute’ gift ideas list (within your budget range of course) for those who weren’t so organised!

Dream Job: Make-up and Hair Stylist

When I was growing up I wanted to work in all sorts of jobs. When I was eight, I wanted to be a cashier girl because I thought scanning the bar codes of products looked really fun. At 12 I wanted to be a fashion designer, but that slowly failed cause I couldn’t really draw. But by the time I finished high school I knew exactly what I wanted to do and that was to become an Advertiser.

Figuring out what you want to be in the future can be really hard and frustrating, especially when your parents are pushing you to do something you don’t really want to do. I know some of you are probably thinking,  “YOLO man, I’ll work it out later “. But those days will soon creep up (very fast) and you’ll end up with the same question… “What the hell am I going to do?!”

In order to ease your frustration and inspire you to work towards your dream job,  I have decided to go on a quest to find professionals from different industries to give you an insight on what the job is like.

To kick start the quest, I managed to score an interview with make-up and hair stylist Campbell Ritchie, who started her career at an early stage (15 to be exact!) and now has 20 years of experience under her belt. I also got a few skin care and make up tips,  as well as a quick make-up class with her!

So for all those who want to be a make-up and hair stylist or at least curious to know what it’s like to be one, this interview will hopefully give you a good idea!

(P.S. I apologise for the in between giggles)

Fashion Friday #19 – Neighbourhood Watch

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, so I thought I’d get back on the bandwagon and kick start it again!

For my old readers, you’re probably thinking – “Hey, she’s worn the same thing before” which I will say – CORRECT! But this time I’ve partnered it up with two of my favourite items in my wardrobe!

Whenever I go overseas I always make it a challenge to find and buy something unique or something I’ve been wanting for a long time. In my last holiday, I picked up a range of goodies which I’m sure will keep me on trend until the end of winter. The tweed printed jacket that I bought from Zara Philippines, not only was on sale (yes I’m a bargain hunter) but also on my to buy list.

One of the other things I tend to do when I’m overseas is to buy one luxury item – only because it’s cheaper overseas. And while I was in Malaysia I bought a Givenchy clutch which I absolutely love!  So what you do you guys think?

Today’s Fashion Friday features the following items:

Faux black leather skirt – Mink Pink

Basic yellow top - Zara

Tweed printed jacket - Zara

Statement necklace – made by me!

Wooden wedge clogs – See by Chloe

Sunglasses – Alex Perry

Black clutch – Givenchy
